Event Overview

The Slieve Gullion Mountain Race is a mountain running event first organized in 1973. It is the first race in both the 2026 NIMRA Championship (Short category) and the IMRA Ulster Championship series.

Race Details

The race is 3.9 miles long with 340 metres of elevation gain. It starts on the north side of Slieve Gullion. The course is not marked but follows a fairly straightforward route. It climbs on paths and open mountain to the north cairn, then along the ridge to the south cairn, returning by the same path. The path along the top can be muddy in wet conditions.

Participation Information

The event is organized by Armagh AC. The minimum age for participants is 15. Entry fees are listed as £12.00 for ANI-affiliated runners and £14.00 for unaffiliated runners. Online entries open on Monday 2nd February 2026 and close on Thursday 5th March 2026.

Requirements

Knowledge of the course or good navigational skills are required, especially in conditions of poor visibility. Full body cover is mandatory. Participants are advised to wear shoes with good grip. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
