Slay the Dragon - Silver Star Mountain Resort
Slay the Dragon is a trail running event at Silver Star Mountain Resort near Vernon, British Columbia, held June 20-21, 2026. Registration for 2026 is open. The main race distances are:
- 13.6 km
- 25 km
- 50 km
Racers start above 5,200 feet and reach viewpoints near 6,280 feet with unobstructed views of the Monashee Mountains. Courses use forested singletrack mountain bike trails at Silver Star. The 25 km awards 1 ITRA point and 5 mountain points; the 50 km awards 2 ITRA points and 4 mountain points. The 50 km has ACU listing/certification.
Additional events include the Dragon King/Queen Vertical Climb (1.1 miles, 480 m vertical gain, no marked trail) and a kids race called Slay the Baby Dragon (about 2.7 km out-and-back, ages 0–12). The kids race is timed but emphasizes participation; finishers receive a medallion and a goodie bag.
Logistics and rules: packet pickup and drop-bag drop occur on June 19 at the Adventure Center; signed waivers are required before participation. The event is cup-less so runners must carry their own reusable cup, bottle, or hydration system. Mandatory gear varies by distance (example for 50 km: minimum 1000 ml fluid, minimum 200 calories, jacket or emergency blanket). Aid stations are fully stocked with drinks and a variety of food options, including some gluten-free items. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
