Skylar's Run - Clean Water 5K
Everyday in parts of East Africa, women and children walk an average of five kilometers to collect water that is often unclean and unsafe. This event aims to raise awareness that access to safe, clean water is a solvable problem and directs funds to provide sustainable water filters for vulnerable families in Kenya. The funding focus is on households with limited means that include young children, elderly people, those with physical disabilities, or chronically ill members who are most susceptible to waterborne illnesses.
The event takes place at Little Mulberry Park: Fence Road Entrance in Auburn, GA, and offers multiple participation options:
- 5K Run/Walk
- 1/2 mile Walk and Roll on a paved loop
- Virtual 5K participant option
The Walk and Roll route is wheelchair and stroller accessible and is held on a paved half mile loop. Walk and Roll registration includes a free buddy registration for the primary participant; a shirt for the buddy is optional. General registration includes a participant t-shirt, a raffle ticket, and post-race drinks and snacks. The 5K is a Certified Peachtree qualifier. The 5K awards medals to the top three timed finishers in each age and gender category and trophies for the overall top three men and top three women. The Walk and Roll is not timed; all registrants receive participation medals in a special awards ceremony and there is a medal ceremony and photobooth with event headliners after events conclude.
