About the race
Skunk Ape Trail Run takes place on August 1, 2026 at Monte Sano State Park, 5105 Nolen Ave SE, Huntsville, AL. It is the third race in the Wild Thangs Trail Series and is limited to 400 runners. Distances offered: - *5 Mile* - *10 Mile* Courses are described as spectator friendly with bluff views, mountain scenery, creek crossings and waterfalls.
Several aid stations are provided along the routes offering water, Gatorade, cola, pretzels, M&M's and granola bars. The event follows a cupless policy; runners must carry a hand-held bottle, pack or reusable cup. A reusable cup is available for purchase for five dollars at checkout. All participants in the Skunk Ape races receive a tri-blend race shirt (same shirt used for the full series) and a finisher award.
Packet pickup for Skunk Ape is scheduled for Friday, July 31, 2026 at RunningLane; same-day pickup is available on race morning in a limited window. Organizers state there will be very loose cutoffs and note a 17 minute per mile cutoff for Long Series participants. Organizers also suggest that participants who cannot maintain 15 minute miles consider the Short Series.
