Skeetawk Scramble Weekend

The Skeetawk Scramble is a three-day mountain running event. All races start and finish at the Skeetawk Ski Area in the Hatcher Pass Recreation Area near Palmer, Alaska.

The 2026 race weekend will take place from August 28 to August 30. The events include a youth uphill race, a VK (vertical kilometer), a 12K mountain loop, and a 37K "Skeetawk Skyline Scramble." The Skeetawk Skyline Scramble is one of four official US Skyrunning races. Runners can choose to run one, two, or all three events over the weekend.

Skeetawk VK

The vertical kilometer race starts at Skeetawk. The course follows Frostbite Ridge to the intersection of the Blueberry Knoll-to-Government Peak trail. The distance is 3 miles with over 3000 feet of elevation gain.

Skeetawk 12K

This is a 12K looped course with 3600 feet of elevation gain and loss. It starts at Skeetawk, goes up Frostbite Ridge to Government Peak, traverses ridges, and descends from Halibut Tail back to Skeetawk.

Youth Scramble

This is a 1-kilometer, point-to-point uphill-only course for participants aged 14 and under. It starts at Skeetawk and goes up the beginning of Frostbite Ridge, with approximately 1000 feet of elevation gain.

Skeetawk Skyline Scramble

This is a 37K (approximately 23-mile) Skyrunning course with 11,500 feet of elevation gain. The route starts at Skeetawk Ski Area, ascends Frostbite Ridge to Government Peak, and traverses a ridge to Hatcher Pass. It passes Hatch Peak, descends the April Bowl trail and Summit Lake road, and goes to the Fishhook/Marmot parking lot. The course then climbs to Marmot peak, traverses a ridge to Gold Cord Lake, descends the Gold Cord Trail to Hatcher Pass Lodge, climbs back to Summit Lake and Hatch Peak, and returns along the ridge to Halibut Tail Point before a final descent to Skeetawk. The event has several course cut-off times. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
