Event Overview
Death By a Mile is a trail running event held at the Skeetawk Ski Area in Hatcher Pass, Palmer, Alaska. The event is organized by Black Wolf Endurance and serves as a season finale. The primary objective is to complete as many one-mile trail loops as possible within a specified time limit.
Participants can choose from several timed durations:
- 12 Hour
- 8 Hour
- 6 Hour
- 4 Hour (available in morning or afternoon sessions)
- Kid Loop(s)
The course begins at a start tent in the parking lot. Runners ascend the Altitude gravel path for 0.39 miles before reaching the Meadow Loop trail, which is 0.54 miles long. Participants may run the Meadow Loop in either a clockwise or counter-clockwise direction. After each full loop, runners must return to the start tent to have their bib punched before beginning the next lap.
The facility includes a yurt that provides warmth and coffee or other beverages for purchase. While the organizers provide water, electrolytes, and snacks, participants are encouraged to bring their own nutrition, chairs, and blankets. Self-crewing is permitted at personal vehicles or canopy setups.
The event is open to adults and minors. Participants aged 12 to 17 may enter any session if a guardian is on site. Children under 12 may participate in the Kid Loop category provided they run with a registered parent or guardian. Individual loops are not timed, and participants may take breaks between laps.
