Silverton Blue Ribbon 5k and 10k
The Silverton Blue Ribbon is a community running event located in Silverton, Colorado. Established in the early 1980s, the race was revived in 2022 and is currently organized by the local nonprofit Silverton Wild. The event takes place on July 4 as part of the town's holiday celebrations and follows a perimeter course around the mountain town, which is situated in the San Juan Mountains.
Participants can choose between two race distances:
- 5 km
- 10 km
The event begins at Memorial Park and follows a scenic route around the local area. This is a free community run, though the organizers accept donations to support the Silverton Family Learning Center preschool. All participants who finish the course receive a prize and a handmade rhubarb bar provided by the Friends of Silverton Library.
The race maintains its grassroots history, having transitioned from an informal neighborhood gathering to a structured town tradition that focuses on community enrichment through outdoor activities.
