Signpost Challenge Hike
The Signpost Challenge Hike is based at Marple Senior Citizens Hall in Memorial Park Drive, Marple SK6 6BA. The route heads to the north and east of Marple, passing over Werneth Low, Cown Edge, Lantern Pike and Chinley Churn in the High Peak, and returns via the Goyt Valley way. Views over Manchester, the South Pennines and the Peak District are possible in good weather. The routes pass through villages and areas of industrial heritage, and the long route crosses the Millennium walkway in New Mills.
There are two route options:
- 24 miles / 4,300 ft, complete in 10 hours
- 17 miles / 3,000 ft, complete in 10 hours
Each route includes three outdoor and one indoor checkpoint with drinks and snacks. The long route uses a Scout Hut in Hayfield as its indoor checkpoint; the short route uses the Children's Inn at Rowarth. Entry fees include tea, coffee and pastries at the start, snacks and drinks at checkpoints, and a hot meal at the finish. All finishers receive a certificate. The event is organised by South Manchester LDWA. Parking is available at Chadwick Street and Hollins Lane public car parks; parking at Memorial Park is not available due to building works. Dogs are not allowed. Participants should bring a mug for drinks. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
