Signpost Challenge Hike
Hosted by South Manchester LDWA and based in Marple near Stockport, this walk follows a hilly scenic route to the north and east of Marple. The course passes over Werneth Low, Cown Edge, Lantern Pike and Chinley Churn in the High Peak and returns to Marple via the Goyt Valley Way.
There are two route options:
- 24 miles / 4,300 ft ascent
- 17 miles / 3,000 ft ascent
Both routes are to be completed within ten hours. Each route includes three outdoor control points and one indoor control point, with drinks and snacks available at the controls. The long route crosses the Millennium walkway in New Mills. The long indoor control uses the Scout Hut at Hayfield and the short indoor control uses the Children’s Inn at Rowarth.
The event headquarters and start/finish are at Marple Senior Citizens Hall, Memorial Park Drive, Marple SK6 6BA. Parking is available on Chadwick Street and Hollins Lane public car parks; parking at the Memorial Park is not available because of building works. Participants are asked to bring a mug for drinks. Entry provisions include hot food at the finish and a certificate for finishers. The minimum age for entry is 16 years. Dogs are not permitted.
