Event Overview
The Shrewsbury Junior and Super Sprint Duathlon is a run-bike-run event held at the Shrewsbury Sports Village. The competition takes place entirely on a purpose-built cycle track within the sports village grounds, providing a 100% traffic-free environment for all participants. The event features timed races and offers distances for various age groups, from children starting at age 8 to adults.
Race Categories
The event includes multiple categories based on the participant's age as of December 31st of the event year:
- Tristart (Age 8): 400m run, 1km bike, 200m run.
- Tristar 1 (Ages 9-10): 1km run, 4km bike, 400m run.
- Tristar 2 (Ages 11-12): 1.5km run, 6km bike, 600m run.
- Tristar 3 (Ages 13-14): 2km run, 8km bike, 800m run.
- Super Sprint (Age 15+): A category for older juniors and adults.
Course Details and Safety
Participants perform the run section anticlockwise on the inside of the track and the cycling section clockwise on the outside of the track. To maintain safety, the mount and dismount lines for the cycling portion are located away from the transition area. All cyclists are required to wear a helmet to access the course.
Facilities
The venue provides ample free parking. A transition area is located on the cycle track in a dedicated cut-through where participants can store their bikes, running shoes, and nutrition. While no bag drop is available, spectators can utilize the on-site cafe and designated viewing areas that overlook the start, finish, and transition zones.
