30th Annual Shelter for Help in Emergency 5K Run/Walk for Shelter
The Shelter for Help in Emergency 5K Run/Walk is the event's 30th annual running of the Charlottesville downtown mall route. It takes place on October 17, 2026, during Domestic Violence Awareness Month and follows the historic downtown mall course in Charlottesville, VA.
The event distance is 5K and the format is a run/walk. Registration opens August 24, 2026, and closes October 17, 2026. The registration fee is $35.
Packet pick-up is scheduled for Friday, October 16, at the Scrappy Elephant, 1745 Allied St Suite C, Charlottesville, VA 22903.
Awards are given to the top three female and top three male overall finishers and to the top three female and top three male masters finishers. All participants are eligible for grab bag prizes that are awarded at the end of the event; winners must be present to claim a prize.
The event is organized by the Shelter for Help in Emergency. Since 1979 the organization has provided trauma informed residential and community services, including a 24 hour hotline, emergency shelter, safety planning, information and referral, resource assistance, legal advocacy and court accompaniment, supportive counseling, outreach to the Spanish speaking community, and programs for children and youth.
