30th Annual Shelter for Help in Emergency 5K Run/Walk for Shelter
Shelter for Help in Emergency presents the 30th annual 5K run/walk on October 17, 2026, in Charlottesville. The event takes place at the west end of Charlottesville's Historic Downtown Mall near Mudhouse Coffee and is organized to support the agency's work for survivors of intimate partner violence. The event distance is 5K.
Shelter for Help in Emergency provides trauma-informed services including a 24-hour hotline, emergency shelter, survivor advocacy, safety planning, counseling and emotional support, and legal advocacy and court accompaniment. The organization also conducts prevention and education to help the community recognize, respond to, and prevent intimate partner violence.
Registration opens August 20, 2026 and closes September 8, 2026; the registration fee is $30. Packet pickup is available in advance on October 16 at The Scrappy Elephant, 1745 Allied St Ste C, Charlottesville, VA 22903, and race day packet pickup will be available by the finish line. Organizers provide a course map for the route.
Event offerings on the day include commemorative knee high "Safe Love Rocks" socks and grab bag prizes from local businesses.
