Charlottesville Track Club New Year's Day 5K
The Charlottesville Track Club presents a New Year 5K offered as an in person event at Free Union, Virginia, and as a virtual anywhere option. Distances available:
- 5K in person at Free Union
- 5K virtual run, complete between December 30, 2026 and January 1, 2027
Registration fee is $40.27 with a member discount to $35.27 for valid Charlottesville Track Club members. Race-day registration increases to $50.26. Proceeds and donations benefit Shoes for Kids and the Charlottesville Free Clinic. The first 300 registrants who register before December 10 and complete the race receive a tubular sparklers scarf.
The Free Union course is reported as relatively flat and uses chip timing supplied by Blue Ridge Timing. The event follows a mass start format. Porta-johns with hand sanitizer will be available at the site. Water will be available at the finish; participants are encouraged to bring their own water as well. Medical coverage will be present. Strollers and baby carriers are allowed but must start at the back of the field; dogs are not permitted on the racecourse.
Volunteers assist with parking and course guidance. Parking is off Wesley Chapel Road; attendees are asked not to park along the roadside or in the chapel parking lot. Participants should be aware there may be limited cell service or GPS access near the venue. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
