Burke Creek Barn Burner 5K and 15K
The Burke Creek Barn Burner takes place on 01/09/2027 at Pleasant Grove Park in Palmyra, VA (271 Pleasant Grove Drive, 22963). The event includes two trail races:
- 5K trail race
- 15K trail race
Registration opens 08/31/2026 and closes 11/27/2026. Fees listed for the events are $30 for the 5K and $40 for the 15K. Race day registration is available but swag items cannot be guaranteed for late signups. Active members of the Charlottesville Area Trail Runners receive a $5 registration discount.
Both courses are loop style and are composed of about 90% wooded single or double track trails and 10% open cross country trails or gravel roads. The 5K course features approximately 260 feet of ascent and descent; the 15K course features approximately 850 feet of ascent and descent. There is a fully stocked aid station at the start/finish area and one aid station on course; the 15K on-course station includes food in addition to water and electrolytes. Prizes are awarded to the top three overall male and female finishers and to age group winners.
Additional event components include a community sticker art contest with submissions due 10/23/2026 and public voting from 10/26/2026 to 11/01/2026; entrants receive a $5 discount code Sticker2027 and the contest winner receives a refunded free race entry. The event participates in a Winter Series where participants in each of the series events receive a commemorative prize at no additional cost. Informal, no-drop training runs for local participants are planned to begin in early to mid December with Saturday morning outings starting around six miles and increasing over time.
Race rules note that dogs and strollers are not permitted on the race course; pets are allowed in the park when leashed and under control. The organizer maintains a no-refund policy with an exception for pregnancy and postpartum circumstances; refunds for those circumstances must be requested from the organizer.
