About the race
The 13th Annual Shawshank Hustle is a 4.6 mile run and walk held at The Ohio State Reformatory in Mansfield, Ohio on August 14, 2027. The event starts and finishes at the reformatory and follows closed city streets out to the Carrousel District and back. The course is paved, includes rolling hills, and crosses railroad tracks twice; organizers note that train traffic may affect the race and no time adjustments will be made for crossing delays. There is a two hour course limit.
On course support includes four water stops at miles 1, 2, 2.7 and 3.6 and misting stations at miles 2.1 and 3.1. Electronic chip timing will be used and live results are provided by the timing partner. Registration is open until the field reaches capacity of 2,500. Options include standard in person registration, a mail packet option and a virtual entry; shipping for packet and virtual options is available to addresses in the contiguous 48 US states.
Registered participants receive a custom tech shirt (size guaranteed if registered before July 15), a personalized bib if entered by July 15, and a finisher's medal. Additional event features include free professional race photos, free admission to The Ohio State Reformatory during the 2027 tour season, a free ride on the Richland Carrousel, a costume contest with judged awards, age group and wheelchair awards, and a post race party at Phoenix Brewing Company.
