The 12th Annual Shawshank Hustle
The Shawshank Hustle is a 4.6 mile run and walk held on August 15, 2026 at The Ohio State Reformatory in Mansfield, Ohio. The course starts and finishes at the Reformatory and follows closed city streets to the Carrousel District and back. Roads are paved, the route includes rolling hills and a final Road to Redemption hill, and it crosses railroad tracks twice; trains may cause delays without adjustment to race times. The event enforces a two hour course limit.
Registration is limited to 2,500 participants and offers in-person, mailed-packet, and virtual options with shipping available to addresses in the contiguous 48 US states. Packet pick-up is available at the race site on the days before and the day of the event; mailed packets and virtual participant items are shipped in mid-July. Participants receive a custom tech shirt (size guaranteed for registrations before June 30), a personalized race bib (name deadline June 30), a finisher's medal, electronic chip timing, and complimentary admission to the Ohio State Reformatory plus a ride on the Richland Carrousel. On-course support includes four water stops and misting stations, electronic timing, free professional photos, and post-race food.
Event features include the Guards versus Inmates team challenge, age group and wheelchair awards presented at the start line, a costume contest with group and individual categories, pace team runners at multiple target paces, and proceeds benefiting the Mansfield Reformatory Preservation Society. Parking options include off-site free parking, VIP on-site parking for a donation with limited spaces, and free handicapped parking on site.
