Shawangunk Ridge Trail Run (SRT)
The Shawangunk Ridge Trail Run is a trail running event centered on the Shawangunk Ridge near Rosendale, New York. The course follows the Shawangunk Ridge Trail from the ridgeline to the town of Rosendale, passing through a variety of landscapes including rolling hills, wetlands, dwarf pine barrens, sky lakes, waterfalls, and white conglomerate cliffs formed about three hundred million years ago. Vantage points on the ridge rise roughly 2,000 feet above the Hudson Valley and provide long-distance views across several states.
The event is organized into three divisions:
- 70 Miler
- 30 Miler
- Half Marathon
The half marathon and 30-mile divisions are described as appropriate for fast hikers as well as runners. The 70-mile division is intended for seasoned trail runners. The course is unsupported and uses multiple checkpoints with time cut-offs; participants must carry their own food and water purification and may be held at checkpoints if required. Trails are well blazed but have no supplemental markings and include rocky sections, squeezes, and scrambles. No pacers, support crews, drop bags, or resupply caches are allowed.
Event logistics include shuttle buses and Rosendale-only parking. Registered participants receive tech t-shirts, finishers medals, and other event badges and certificates. The race is managed by Run Wild, Inc., a not-for-profit that supports land conservation and trail stewardship. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
