Share The Road, Remembering Raymond Butler 5k
The Share The Road, Remembering Raymond Butler 5k is an annual community event held in Eclectic, Alabama. Now in its fourth year, the event serves as a memorial and an advocacy initiative to improve road safety for cyclists and runners. The race takes place with the start and finish lines located in front of Elmore County High School.
Participants can choose between two primary event formats:
- 5k run/walk
- Virtual 5k
The event honors the memory of a local athlete and advocate for outdoor sports. The primary objective is to raise awareness regarding the legal rights of cyclists on the roadway and to encourage motorists to share the road safely. Financial proceeds from the registrations are used to fund the purchase and installation of "Share The Road" signage throughout the area. Previous editions of the race have already funded the installation of forty such signs.
Recognition is provided for top performers across various categories. Awards are presented to the overall male and female finishers, as well as the first, second, and third-place finishers in numerous age groups ranging from under 14 to over 80. Participants who register by the specified deadline in May receive a commemorative event t-shirt. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
