The Shamrockin Run New Orleans takes place along the New Orleans Lakefront, with all activities centered at the Blue Crab Restaurant and Oyster Bar. Participants run on a course along Lakeshore Drive that is completely closed to vehicle traffic. The event features several race distances and formats to accommodate various preferences.

The 5K Guinness Challenge is a specific event format where participants stop at each kilometer to consume a 6oz glass of beer. There are designated beer zones along the course for this category. Awards for the fastest three male and female finishers in this specific challenge include cases of beer.
All races start and finish at the same location on Lakeshore Drive. Logistics such as packet pickup and registration are held at the Louisiana Running Company on the Friday prior to the event and at the host restaurant on the Saturday and Sunday of the race weekend.
