Event Overview
The 19th annual Shamrock 5K/Fun Run is held by Asheville Catholic School. The event is a fundraiser for the O'Brien and William Edward Giibbs Memorial Scholarship Fund.
Distances
- 5K: A timed race on a course through the neighborhoods of North Asheville. It starts and finishes at Asheville Catholic School and has one water station.
- Fun Run: A shorter, approximately 0.4-mile course from the school to St. Eugene's Catholic Church and back.
Event Details
All races start and finish at Asheville Catholic School. Police officers and volunteers will be stationed at intersections and turns along the courses. The event is described as family-friendly and stroller-friendly. The 5K participant cap is 650 people.
Registered participants receive a custom race shirt. Fun Run participants also receive a prize at the finish line. Post-race refreshments, including snacks and bottled water, are provided. Adults 21 and over can receive one beer from Sugar Creek Brewing with their race bib stub.
A bag drop service is available using the stub on the race bib. Dogs are not permitted at the school during the event.
Awards
Awards are given for the 5K. The top three overall male and female finishers, the top three male and female masters (40 & over) finishers, and the top three male and female finishers in numerous age groups receive awards.
Registration & Logistics
Registration operates on a tiered fee structure. Packet pickup is available on the Friday before and the morning of the event. The policy states no refunds or deferrals, but transfers to another person are possible through the registration platform until a specified deadline before the race.
Parking is limited at the school. Additional parking is available at St. Eugene Catholic Church (until the road closes), a former Steinmart lot, Jones Elementary School, Asbury United Methodist Church, Grace Episcopal Church, and surrounding neighborhood streets.
