Event overview
The Asheville Hot Chocolate Races take place on January 24, 2026, starting and finishing at Isaac Dickson Elementary School, 125 Hill St, Asheville, NC 28801. The event is in its 18th year and benefits the Isaac Dickson Elementary School Parent Teacher Organization. The course features a downhill start and an uphill finish, with a major portion of the route running along the French Broad River. Online registration closes the night before the event on January 23; race day onsite registration is available only for the untimed kids events.

Registration fees listed on the event page include: kids events $22.55, half marathon $75.80, 10K $54.50, 5K $43.85, and virtual runner $65.15. Discounts include $5 off for entrants 17 and under, $5 off for entrants 65 and older, and 15% off for groups of five or more.
Logistics and amenities
Early packet pick up begins Friday, January 23 at 4:00 PM in the school gym; race day packet pick up is available in the gym. The post-race gathering is held in the school gymnasium with music, local vendors, snacks, and hot chocolate made with French Broad Chocolates and Farm to Home Milk. The event has a no-refund policy in most circumstances and may be postponed to a later date in late January or early February; refunds are not provided if the event is postponed.
