The 8th Annual Shades of Death 10 miles takes place on 10/17/2026 in Avella, Pennsylvania, with the course starting and finishing at the Polar Star Club (849 Meadowcroft Rd.). The route is a loop on back roads and trails that pass farms and forests, including Shades of Death Road, and includes hilly terrain.
The course features more than 1,200 feet of ascent and about 1,200 feet of descent. There is a four-hour cutoff for finishers. Three official aid stations are located near miles 3, 6, and 8. Registration opens 7/5/2026 and closes 9/18/2026; the listed registration fee is $50.00.
