Sgt. Bertram 5K9 : Charlestown, IN
The Sgt. Bertram 5K9 is a memorial run/walk held in Charlestown, Indiana, at Charlestown High School on August 1, 2026. The event honors Sgt. Benton Bertram, a ten-year veteran of the Charlestown Police Department who died on December 12, 2018 while pursuing a suspect in a stolen vehicle. Sgt. Bertram served as a K9 officer and is remembered for his dedication to his canine partners, first K9 Kubo and then K9 Franco.
The event encourages participants to run or walk with their dogs, which is reflected in the 5K9 name. Proceeds support two beneficiaries: the 550 Foundation in honor of Sgt. Ben Bertram and an additional local beneficiary.
Registration details listed for the event include a registration fee shown as $34.09 (listed as $30.00 plus processing and taxes for the period March 31 to July 31). A race shirt is guaranteed for registrants who register by July 6. Ages 10 and under receive a 50 percent discount at checkout.
This race is part of the Triple Crown of Charlestown series, which also includes the Pirate Dash 5K on June 13 and the Monroe Street Mile on July 18. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
