Event Overview

The Settle Saunter is an annual walking and running event that explores the footpaths and bridleways of the Yorkshire Dales. Hosted in the market town of Settle, the routes lead participants through rural villages, hamlets, and the lower fells of the region. The event is organized by the Rotary Club of Settle and serves as a fundraiser for various charitable causes, including local fell rescue and international health projects.

Course Information

The event features three distinct distances to accommodate different experience levels. All routes consist of flagged paths with tape, and the organizers provide comprehensive route descriptions, maps, and GPS files. Participants can choose between:

  • 10k (6.2 miles)
  • Half Marathon (21k / 13 miles)
  • 23 Mile (37k)

The courses utilize SPORTident timing systems. While the terrain includes fells and bridleways, the routes are described as runnable. Dogs are permitted to join participants as long as they remain on a lead throughout the event.

Participation and Facilities

The event is based at Victoria Hall in Settle, where a garden cafe serves snacks and drinks throughout the day. Entry is open to various age groups, though specific restrictions apply to the longer distances. Children aged 5 to 11 may participate in the 10k free of charge if accompanied by a registered parent. Participants aged 15 or younger must be accompanied by a responsible adult at all times, and the 23 Mile route is restricted to those aged 13 and older. Staggered start windows are used for each distance to manage flow on the trails. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
