Service Above Self 5K and Fun Run
The Service Above Self 5K and Fun Run is organized by the Mesquite Police Association Charities to strengthen the relationship between law enforcement and the community and to support programs that benefit Mesquite officers and their families. The event combines a community celebration with activities that promote health, community involvement, and public safety. Participants of all ages may attend a family friendly morning that includes food trucks, local vendors, and vehicle and specialty unit displays.
Race options include a chip timed 5K, a family oriented fun run or walk, and a virtual 5K. A Uniform Division is available for law enforcement and fire personnel competing in approved duty gear. Registered participants receive an official race shirt, a swag bag, and a finisher medal when registered by the stated deadline. Registration by August 26 guarantees a finisher medal; registration by September 18 guarantees an event shirt.
The 5K course begins at Travis Williams Softball Complex and proceeds east on New Market Road, south on Belt Line Road, west on Cartwright Road, then northwest on the Travis Williams Trail via the Bruton Soccer Complex before returning to the softball complex finish. The 1 mile fun run follows New Market Road east to Belt Line Road and returns west to the softball complex. Course routes are subject to City of Mesquite approval.
Awards include overall male and female winners, age group first place male and female winners, and uniform division awards. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
