Semper Fi 5k, Pensacola

The Semper Fi 5k is a community road event held in downtown Pensacola with the start and finish at Seville Quarter, 130 E Government St. The event offers a 5K run and a 5K walk, and includes separate active-duty military categories for both run and walk that require military identification.

The event began as a fundraiser after the Marine Barracks Beirut, Lebanon bombing on October 23, 1983 and was initially organized as the Beirut Relief 10K. The first edition was hosted at NAS Pensacola on Armed Forces Day in May 1984 with more than 500 military and civilian participants. Proceeds originally supported a Marine Corps scholarship fund for children of families affected by the 1983 attack; over time the race proceeds shifted to nonprofit children’s organizations serving the Greater Pensacola area.

Local active-duty military units and high school JROTC units traditionally participate, sometimes running the event in formation. Leadership for the race transferred to the Marine Corps League in 2014 and is now managed by a local detachment.

Packet pickup and late registration are held the Friday before the event at Running Wild, 3012 E Cervantes St, Pensacola, and on race day at Seville Quarter. Additional event details are handled by the race organizer. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
