Scrub Jay Races
The event takes place at Oscar Scherer State Park with pre and post race activity in the vicinity of the Nature Center at Lake Osprey. Parking, packet pick up, starts, finish and post race services are located near the Nature Center. The 5K and 10K use different starts and courses.
- Scrub Jay 5K: mostly hard packed surfaces, some roots, about 400 meters of sugar sand
- Scramble 10K: technical trail course, sugar sand, ups and downs, underpasses and overpasses
- Virtual Scrub Jay 5K: virtual 3.1 mile option
- Virtual Scrub Jay 10K: virtual 6.2 mile option
The Scrub Jay 5K runs largely on prepared or hard packed surfaces with occasional bumps and tree roots and finishes with a section on the Green Trail that includes roots, ruts and a sugar sand stretch. The Scramble 10K is entirely on trails, travels deep into the park including newer trails and restored habitat, and uses pedestrian underpasses and overpasses.
Dogs and strollers are prohibited on the courses. Registration includes a custom finisher medal for all finishers and a custom race shirt while supplies last. The post race offering includes hot dogs with veggie dogs available on request, fruit and other snacks. Shirt sizes are available in the online inventory during registration and any shirts not picked up by the close of packet pick up on race morning will be forfeited and made available for swap or for others.
Racing uses gun starts with a chip timed finish and no timing mats at the starts. Results are available on site and can be texted or emailed to participants if they opt in during registration. Overall and category awards are offered including Masters 40 plus, Grandmasters 50 plus, Senior Grandmasters 60 plus, Veteran Grandmasters 70 plus and Youth Overall 14 and under. Age group awards are offered for both races with specified age brackets. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
