Scrub Jay Races - Oscar Scherer State Park
The Scrub Jay Races take place on January 23, 2027, at Oscar Scherer State Park near the Nature Center at Lake Osprey. The event marks the 27th annual running of the 5K and Scramble 10K and includes virtual 5K and 10K options. Parking, packet pick up, starts, finish and post-race activities are in the vicinity of the Nature Center.

- 6.2 miles (Virtual Scrub Jay 10K)
Course notes: the Scrub Jay 5K runs mostly on hard-packed or prepared surfaces with some bumps and tree roots; the final section uses the Green Trail and includes about 400 meters of sugar sand. The Scramble 10K is an entirely trail-based course with sugar-sand sections, ups and downs, and pedestrian underpasses and overpasses; it is described as technical and designed for trail runners. Dogs and strollers are prohibited on the race courses.
Timing and awards: the 5K and 10K use a gun start with chip-timed finishes and no timing mats at the starts. Results are available on site and can be sent by text or email if selected during registration. Overall and category awards include Masters, Grandmasters, Senior Grandmasters, Veteran Grandmasters, and Youth divisions; age-group awards are specified separately for the 5K and 10K.
Registration and extras: registration windows and fees vary by event. All finishers receive a custom finisher's medal. Post-race provisions include hot dogs (veggie option on request), fruit, and snacks. Race shirts are provided while supplies last; chosen sizes are available during registration and uncollected shirts at packet pick up become available for size swaps. Young runners and members of Friends of Oscar Scherer Park or certain local clubs may receive discounted registration pricing. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
