Event Overview

The Screaming Pumpkin is a multi-distance running event held at Lower Glen Oak Park in Peoria, Illinois. The course takes participants through Springdale Cemetery and along the park boulevard. Organized by The Yellow Bear Foundation, the event raises awareness and funds for Primary Immunodeficiency research. Participants have several distance options to choose from:

  • Full Marathon
  • Marathon Relay (4 Person)
  • Half Marathon
  • 6.55 Mile (10kish) Race
  • 2 Mile Run/Walk
  • Virtual Run/Walk

Course Details and Safety

The routes for the 6.55 Mile, Half Marathon, Full Marathon, and Marathon Relay consist of a looped course. The Half Marathon requires two laps, while the Full Marathon and relay teams complete four laps. The entire course is marked with cones and colored glowsticks. Green glowsticks indicate the correct path, while red glowsticks highlight hazards such as potholes or tree roots.

Due to the evening nature of the event, headlamps are mandatory for those participating in the Full Marathon, Marathon Relay, and Half Marathon. They are also recommended for the 6.55 Mile distance. All courses close at 10:00 PM, and participants in the longer distances are not permitted to start a new loop after 9:15 PM.

Participant Information

Registered runners receive a long-sleeve race shirt, and finishers of the 6.55 Mile distance and above receive a medal. Aid stations provide water, Gatorade, and energy gels. Post-race food is available via a food truck on-site. Costume participation is a common feature of the event, and parking is located at the Woodruff Career & Technical Center.
