Schvitz for Scholarship 5K Run/Walk and Little Schvitzer's Dash
The event is a community running and walking event hosted by JCC Greater Boston in Newton Center. It includes a 5K Run/Walk on a course of approximately three loops around Wells Avenue and a separate children's dash for young participants.
The Little Schvitzer's Dash is a 400 meter dash for children ages 8 and under, accompanied by an adult. Participants in the dash receive a medal, take part in a warm-up with games and music, and may join the 5K afterward by stroller or on foot. Strollers and leashed dogs are welcome on the course.
Accessibility measures will be available, including sensory bags with headphones and a designated quieter area; a social narrative is noted as forthcoming. Requests for accommodations must be made by September 25. Volunteer opportunities are available and can include community service hours for students.
Fundraising guidelines specify minimums of $108 for participants under 39 and $180 for participants 40 and older; fundraising is optional for children and teens, with a suggested goal of $72. The description of fundraising impact lists examples such as adding classroom books, supporting PJ Library subscriptions, and funding scholarships and enrichment experiences.
Bib pickup is offered in the JCC lobby on dates before the event and on race day at a nearby Wells Avenue address. Complimentary water, fruit, snacks, and portable restrooms will be available at the finish area. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
