Sawnee Mountain - Dirty Spokes Trail Run
The event is a trail running race at Sawnee Mountain, Cumming, Georgia, held on July 11, 2026 as part of the Dirty Spokes and Forsyth County Parks & Recreation series. The race offers two distances:
- 4.0 Miles
- 3.1 Miles
The field is capped at 325 participants because parking is limited. The course begins on asphalt near the trailhead information kiosk and quickly moves into single and double track through the preserve. Terrain includes rolling hills, steeper climbs, and technical rocky sections. Both distances remain on the same route until a course split at about 1.35 miles; at that point 4.0 mile runners keep left and 3.1 mile runners veer right. Runners gain elevation until roughly the 2.0 mile mark, pass by the area known as the Indian Seats, then descend. The total distance includes a short loop around the parking lot at the start. A water station is located at approximately 2.3 miles.
Distance measurement notes indicate a GPS unit recorded about 3.79 miles while a calibrated bicycle wheel measured 4.0 miles. Awards include medals for the top three overall male and female finishers, overall masters winners, and the top three in age groups from 14&U through 75&U; athletes must be present to receive medals. Walkers may participate but should be able to complete the course at roughly a 16 minute per mile pace or faster to receive an official time.
