Sawnee Mountain Trail Run
The Sawnee Mountain Trail Run takes place at the Sawnee Mountain Nature Preserve in Cumming, Georgia. This event is part of a trail run series and offers participants an off-road experience through a well-groomed system of trails located in suburban Atlanta. The race utilizes a combination of single track and double track paths.
The course features varying terrain, including rolling hills, steep sections, and technical areas with rocks. Participants begin the race on the street to allow for spacing before entering the woods. The total distance includes a parade lap around the parking area. Runners can choose from two distinct distances:
- 4.0 miles
- 3.1 miles
Both distances follow the same route for the first 1.35 miles until a course split. At this point, the 4.0 mile runners stay left while the 3.1 mile runners veer right. The route follows a clockwise direction, with elevation gain continuing until the 2.0 mile mark. After passing the Indian Seats, the path heads back downhill toward the finish.
A single water station is positioned at approximately 2.3 miles for the 4.0 mile course. Participation is limited to a fixed capacity due to parking availability and trail constraints. Awards are provided for the top three finishers in various age categories, ranging from youth to senior grandmasters. Registered participants receive a tri-blend shirt while supplies last.
