Sawmill Ultra takes place in the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest at Lee Canyon near the Sawmill trailhead in Mt. Charleston. The staging area is at Blue Tree Group Camp with GPS coordinates 36.3617, -115.635. The event is held at an elevation around 7,500 feet and June temperatures are near 85°F daytime and 70°F nighttime.
The course is composed of three counterclockwise loops with approximate mileages:
- Loop one: 5.64 miles
- Loop two: 8.2 miles
- Loop three: 4.3 miles
Race options include the following distances:
- 38.45 miles
- 26.2 miles (marathon)
- 19.23 miles
- 13.1 miles
- 10K
- 5K Relay teams complete the same loops with each team member running a single loop; the team totals are 19.22 miles or 38.45 miles if the course is completed twice.
On-site provisions include hot coffee, chocolate, tea, and hot foods such as casseroles, noodles, broth, burgers, hot dogs, and vegetarian options. Free canned beer will be available for participants age 21 or older when showing ID; non-runners may donate to the beer fund. Virtual entrants may upload results and will receive a mailed medal and t shirt when registered in time to guarantee a shirt. Packet pickup is at the staging area. Volunteers earn credit toward future races for hours worked plus travel credit. If the event is canceled or postponed, entries transfer to another Triple Dare Running event rather than issuing refunds. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
