Sawmill Ultra - Mt. Charleston, NV
Sawmill Ultra takes place in Lee Canyon within the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest near Mt. Charleston. The event offers both solo and team relay formats using three counterclockwise loops with approximate mileages of 5.64, 8.2, and 4.3. A single circuit of the three loops totals about 19.22 miles; completing the circuit twice equals 38.45 miles.
Distances offered include:
- 38.45 miles solo and relay
- 26.2 miles (marathon)
- 19.23 miles solo and relay
- 13.1 miles half marathon
- 10 km
- 5 km
- 1 mile kids run
Relays require the full team to complete all three loops. Each team member runs one loop then tags the next runner. All runners follow the same loop order.
This is a cupless race. Runners should bring hydration packs to refill at aid stations. Marathon and ultramarathon participants will have gel electrolytes available and Gatorade will be served. Packet pickup and bag drop are located at the staging area shortly before race start.
The course sits around 7,600 feet elevation. Terrain passes through forested Sawmill area with pinyon pine, Utah juniper, mountain mahogany, sagebrush, and seasonal wildflowers. Wildlife that may be observed includes mule deer, various chipmunks, jackrabbits, kit fox, and desert tortoise.
Parking is at the Sawmill Trailhead with a short walk back down the dirt trail to the start. Awards are given for male and female top three in each distance. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
