Savannah SSOD (Stone Stairs of Death) Race
The Savannah SSOD (Stone Stairs of Death) Race is a timed endurance event held in Savannah, Georgia. Organized by Rough Runners R4R INC, this charity race is designed to support individuals facing financial hardships due to medical illnesses. The 2026 edition of the event is dedicated to assisting the family of a community member managing stage 4 breast cancer. All registration proceeds, minus operational costs, are donated directly to the designated recipient.
The race takes place on a 1/3 mile loop consisting of paved roads, cobblestones, and stone stairs. Participants follow a specific path starting midway up the stairs, turning onto Williamson Street, MLK Boulevard, and River Street before ascending the stone stairs again. A primary rule of the course is that runners only travel up the stairs and never down them. The event uses ankle-based chip timing to track laps and progress.
Participants can choose between two duration options:
- 1 hour
- 2 hours
The course is noted for its uneven surfaces and awkward stair sections. Overall awards are presented to the top male and female finishers in both timed categories. Registration remains open until the day before the event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
