Savannah SSOD (Stone Stairs of Death) Race
This annual charity running event in Savannah, GA offers timed options for 1 hour and 2 hours. The event is hosted by Rough Runners R4R INC. One hundred percent of registration revenue minus costs and event donations is directed to a family facing medical expenses. Donations are accepted through the event store and via PayPal under Rough Runners R4R INC.
The course is a 1/3 mile loop that includes paved road, cobblestone, and uneven stairs. Participants begin midway on the stairs going up, then follow this sequence: turn right onto Williamson St, turn right on MLK BLVD, turn right on River St, then go up the SSOD and repeat the loop. The stairs are one way for the race; runners ascend them and do not descend. Chip timing is used with ankle chips.
Male and female overall awards are presented for each race duration. The event supports a 2026 recipient who was previously treated for stage 3 breast cancer and later received a stage 4 diagnosis with metastasis to spine and pelvis; care has shifted toward comfort and the event proceeds aim to assist with resulting financial needs.
