Savage Gulf Marathon
The Savage Gulf Marathon is a trail event in Coalmont, Tennessee, organized by HardWin Adventures in coordination with the Tennessee Park Rangers Association. The event includes a full marathon and shorter options, and proceeds support training scholarships and programs for state park rangers.
The route crosses rugged terrain on the Cumberland Plateau with steep descents and climbs into and out of Savage Gulf. Runners encounter rocky footing, multiple stream crossings, bluff edges, large stone formations, waterfalls, historic sites, wildflowers, and old-growth forest. The start location and full race layout are provided to registered runners about one week before the event. Packet pickup is held the morning of the race at the start location.
Entry is limited to the first 200 registrations. Marathon entrants must have previously completed a marathon or longer; the 25k is open without that qualification. All participants receive a participation award; the top three male and female finishers receive additional rewards.
A 5-hour cutoff is enforced at mile 18; runners who have not reached that aid station within the cutoff will be located and escorted to the finish by race volunteers. The event includes a Rucking Division with required pack weights: over 150 lb - 20 lb dry weight; under 150 lb - 10 lb dry weight. Weigh-ins occur 30 minutes before the start and random checks may be performed. Participants must follow COVID and social distancing protocols as specified in race information.
