Event details
The Fiery Gizzard Run is held at Foster Falls State Park, Tracy City, Tennessee, with a participant capacity of 175 set by park officials. The event offers the following distances:
- Marathon
- Half Marathon
- Ruck Only - 13 miles
The race fee does not include shirts or other swag; shirts and other items can be added during registration. To guarantee a race t-shirt, registration must be completed by 11/15/2024. A portion of proceeds supports park and trail maintenance. A custom finisher award is given to all finishers, and additional awards are given to top male and female finishers in both distances.
Course and logistics
The course runs on a well-known trail that features waterfalls, rock formations, and overlooks. Marathon runners complete the trail twice in an out-and-back format starting and ending at the Grundy trail head; half marathon runners complete one full traverse. The trail is mostly flat along ridgelines but includes several steep, technical descents into gorges. Detailed race layouts are emailed about one week before the race.
All participants must check in at Grundy to receive a bib and RFID chip; the chip should be secured to the left ankle and its number verified against the bib. Half marathon participants will drive to the Foster Falls start after check-in; passenger vans will transport finishers back to vehicles from Grundy to Foster Falls. Aid stations are spaced roughly 6-8 miles apart. There is no dedicated medical staff; basic first aid is available and runners are responsible for their own safety. Rucking division weight requirements: over 150 lb - 20 lb; under 150 lb - 10 lb. Dogs are allowed if leashed. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
