The Fiery Gizzard Run offers a marathon and a half marathon on the Fiery Gizzard Trail. The event also includes a Ruck Only division. The start and finish location is at the Foster Falls Trailhead parking area within Foster Falls State Park in Tennessee. The total capacity for the event is 175 runners.
Course Details
The course follows the Fiery Gizzard Trail, which is known for its natural features including waterfalls, rock formations, and ridge-line overlooks. The terrain varies, with some sections described as smooth and runnable and others as steep, technical descents into gorges.
- Marathon: The route starts at Foster Falls, goes north to the Grundy Forest Trailhead, turns around, and returns to finish at Foster Falls.
- Half Marathon: The route is a single traverse from the Grundy Forest Trailhead to the finish at Foster Falls.
- Ruck Only: This division covers 13 miles and involves walking or hiking with a weighted pack.
Aid stations are noted to be 6-8 miles apart due to limited trail access. The final race cutoff time is 5:00 PM at Foster Falls.
Participant Information
All runners receive a custom finisher award at the finish line. Additional awards are given to the top male and female finishers in the half and full marathon distances. Race shirts and other merchandise are not included in the entry fee but can be added during registration.
A portion of the event's proceeds goes to park and trail maintenance. Passenger vans are available after the race to shuttle half marathon participants from the finish back to the Grundy trailhead to retrieve vehicles. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
