Fiery Gizzard Run
The Fiery Gizzard Run takes place at Foster Falls State Park in Sequatchie, Tennessee. The event offers multiple entry options and is organized by HardWin Adventures. Entry capacity is limited to 175 runners as regulated by park officials.
Distances
- Marathon, full traverse out and back to Grundy Trailhead
- Half marathon, single traverse from Grundy to Foster Falls
- Ruck only, 13 miles with mandatory carried weight
The course follows the Fiery Gizzard Trail and includes waterfalls, rock formations, and ridge-line overlooks. Much of the route runs along ridgelines, interspersed with steep, technical descents into gorges that require careful footing. Aid stations are sparse due to limited trail access; runners should plan for stretches of roughly six to eight miles between aid points.
Logistics and rules include chip timing instructions and equipment requirements for the ruck division. All participants must secure their RFID chip to the left ankle and confirm the bib number matches the chip. Ruck participants must carry specified dry weights based on body weight, and weigh-ins occur prior to the event. There is basic first aid available in the field but no dedicated medical staff; participants are responsible for their own safety and any rescue costs.
Race fees do not include shirts or other swag by default; merchandise can be added during registration. A portion of proceeds supports park and trail maintenance. Awards include a custom finisher award for all finishers and additional top male and female awards for each distance. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
