Fiery Gizzard Run
The Fiery Gizzard Run takes place November 28, 2026 at Foster Falls State Park in South Cumberland, Tennessee and is presented by HardWin Adventures. The park limits the field to 175 participants. Race proceeds support park and trail maintenance.
Distances offered include:
- Marathon: full traverse both directions, roughly 7,000 feet of gain.
- Half Marathon: one traverse, slightly over 13.1 miles on the new trail.
- 13 Mile Ruck: HardRuck division on the same traverse.
The course follows the Fiery Gizzard Trail from Grundy Forest to Foster Falls along the rim of the Cumberland Plateau. Features include waterfalls, very large boulders, 200 year old hemlocks, stone steps cut by the CCC, steep technical descents and ridgeline overlooks such as Raven's Point. Marathoners run the trail in both directions; half marathoners and ruck participants run it once.
Logistics reflect the trail's remoteness. Aid stations are placed roughly 6 to 8 miles apart due to limited vehicle access; runners should carry water and calories between stations. Stations provide Spring Energy gels, water, electrolytes and snacks, and the race is cupless. Timing chips are worn on the left ankle. Basic first aid and sweepers are provided, and any rescue costs on the remote trail are the runner's responsibility. Leashed dogs are welcome on course. Shirts are a separate purchase.
