Fiery Gizzard Run
The Fiery Gizzard Run takes place at Foster Falls State Park in Tennessee on November 28, 2026. The event is limited to 175 runners. Distances offered include:
- Marathon - Full out-and-back on the Fiery Gizzard Trail.
- Half Marathon - Single traverse from Grundy Forest Trailhead to Foster Falls.
- Ruck Only - 13 miles - Walk or hike with a weighted pack.
The trail route includes waterfalls, rock formations, and sweeping ridgeline overlooks. Much of the course is runnable ridge-line, but runners will also face steep, technical descents into gorges that require careful footing. Aid stations are farther apart than at typical events; runners should expect stretches of roughly 6 to 8 miles between supplies. Full course details will be emailed about one week before race day. There are posted course cutoffs and checkpoints that runners must meet.
Logistics note that marathon runners start and finish at the Foster Falls Trailhead, while half marathon runners start at the Grundy Forest Trailhead and finish at Foster Falls. Half marathon participants have two check-in options: check in early at Foster Falls and drive to Grundy for the start, or check in directly at Grundy when check-in opens. Runners must secure their RFID chip to the left ankle and ensure the bib number matches the chip number. Passenger vans will shuttle runners from the Foster Falls finish back to Grundy to retrieve vehicles. The rucking division requires set pack weights by bodyweight and includes pre-race weigh-ins; participants may face random on-course weight checks. Medical support on course is limited and runners are responsible for their own safety and rescue costs. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
