Fiery Gizzard Run
The event is staged at Foster Falls State Park in Tennessee with the start and finish moved to the Foster Falls parking area. The organizer limits the field to 175 runners, a capacity set by park officials.
The event offers these distances:
- Marathon
- Half marathon
- Ruck only 13 miles
The course follows the Fiery Gizzard Trail and includes waterfalls, rock formations, and ridge line overlooks. Much of the route runs along ridgelines, but runners will encounter steep, technical descents into gorges and sections that require careful footing. Aid stations are spaced farther apart than typical trail events, with roughly six to eight miles between stations, so participants should plan to carry sufficient water and nutrition.
Course logistics note that marathon runners run the full trail from Foster Falls to the Grundy Forest trailhead and return to Foster Falls to finish, while half marathon runners complete a single traverse from Grundy to Foster Falls. Half marathon check in may be completed at Foster Falls prior to heading to Grundy or directly at Grundy when on site check in opens. Passenger vans will shuttle finishers back to Grundy to retrieve vehicles.
Timing and safety information includes RFID chips to be secured to the left ankle with bib numbers matching chip numbers, a finish cutoff enforced by the organizer, and basic first aid available in the field. Ruck division rules specify dry weight minimums by body weight and require weigh ins before the race; weight must remain on course and may be checked randomly. All finishers receive a custom finisher award and top male and female finishers receive additional awards. Race shirts and other swag are not included in the entry fee and may be added during registration. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
