Event Overview
The Year End Time Turner is a 7-hour time challenge event allowing participants to choose their distance. The minimum distance to complete is 3 km. The event takes place along a stretch of the River Thames in Staines-upon-Thames. Participants can choose from a selection of past medals upon finishing at least 3 km.
Course Details
The course follows a beautiful stretch of the River Thames. It is fully signed, requiring no navigational experience. The surface is mainly well-made paths and tarmac with a very short grass section, suitable for road shoes year-round. A full lap is approximately 4.37 miles or 7 km, subject to change to a 3.28 mile loop depending on conditions. There are turn points within the lap for 3 km and 5 km distances.
Participants can run as many laps as they wish within the 7-hour window, subject to age restrictions. Standard lap counts are:
- 3 laps for a half marathon
- 6 laps for a marathon
- 7 laps or more for an ultra marathon
Distances and Entry
The event offers several entry options with different minimum age requirements:
- 3km: Open to all ages.
- 5km: For entrants aged 12 and over.
- 10km: For entrants aged 16 and over.
- Half Marathon: For entrants aged 17 and over.
- Marathon: For entrants aged 18 and over.
- 50km & Ultra Marathon: For entrants aged 20 and over.
- Time Challenge: For entrants aged 17 and over.
A membership scheme offers a lower entry price, guaranteed entry, and a mini-me medal pin at each event.
Facilities and Other Information
The event headquarters is at The Last Hop on Clarence Street. Toilets are available from 8am, with large downstairs toilets suitable for changing. There is no secure bag drop. Parking is available at Bridge Street Car Park (TW18 4TP).
All finishers receive a goody bag, with vegan options available. An aid table at the start/finish area offers a selection of drinks, crisps, cheese, fruit, and cookies, also with vegan options.
Distance pins for half marathon, mega-half, marathon, 50km, and ultra are awarded for relevant achievements. Headphones are permitted. The event uses public footpaths, and participants are asked to be considerate of other users. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
