Event Overview
Running 9 to 5 - Durham is a time challenge event held at the Durham Amateur Rowing Club. This trail run takes place along the River Wear, offering views of the Cathedral. The course is fully signed, requiring no prior navigational experience. It is licensed by the Trail Running Association and operates under UK Athletics rules.
Distance Options
Participants have seven hours to complete their chosen distance. The course consists of laps measuring approximately 4.37 miles (7 km), though this may be adjusted to a 3.28 mile loop depending on conditions. Specific turn points at 3 km and 5 km are available for younger runners to comply with age restrictions. The following distance milestones are recognized:
- 3 km (Minimum distance for finisher status)
- 5 km
- 10 km
- Half Marathon (3 laps)
- Marathon (6 laps)
- 50 km
- Ultra Marathon (7 or more laps)
Logistics and Facilities
Race headquarters at the rowing club provide toilet and changing facilities. An unstaffed bag drop area is located near the start and finish. An aid table featuring sweet and savoury snacks, including vegan options, is positioned at the end of each lap. Finishers receive a themed medal and a goody bag. Participants completing a half marathon or further are eligible for specific distance pins. Pay and display parking is available in the city centre; parking at the rowing club is prohibited.
