Event Overview
The Remembrance Run is a timed event honoring fallen military personnel. Participants can earn a themed medal and pins.
Distances and Format
This is a 6 hour and 32 minute time-based challenge event. Runners have full control over their total distance. The minimum distance to be considered a finisher is 3km.
The event uses a looped course. A full lap is approximately 4.37 miles (7km), though this may change to a 3.28-mile loop depending on conditions. Within the lap, there are turnaround points at 3km and 5km for younger participants.
- A half marathon requires 3 laps.
- A marathon requires 6 laps.
- An ultra marathon requires 7 or more laps.
- A 50km distance is also available.
At 11:00, all participants observe a two-minute silence in remembrance. This two-minute period will be deducted from each runner's total recorded time.
Course Details
The course is a trail run along a stretch of the River Wear, offering views of Durham Cathedral. The route is fully signed, and no navigation experience is needed. Walkers are welcome.
Amenities and Extras

Participants who complete a half marathon distance or more are eligible for a distance-specific pin (Half-Marathon, Marathon, 50km, or Ultra) attached to their medal ribbon. An aid station at the start/finish area of each lap provides a selection of savory snacks, sweets, fruit, cheese, and vegan items, plus drinks.
