Event Overview

The Remembrance Run is a timed event honoring fallen military personnel. Participants can earn a themed medal and pins.

Distances and Format

This is a 6 hour and 32 minute time-based challenge event. Runners have full control over their total distance. The minimum distance to be considered a finisher is 3km.

The event uses a looped course. A full lap is approximately 4.37 miles (7km), though this may change to a 3.28-mile loop depending on conditions. Within the lap, there are turnaround points at 3km and 5km for younger participants.

  • A half marathon requires 3 laps.
  • A marathon requires 6 laps.
  • An ultra marathon requires 7 or more laps.
  • A 50km distance is also available.

At 11:00, all participants observe a two-minute silence in remembrance. This two-minute period will be deducted from each runner's total recorded time.

Course Details

The course is a trail run along a stretch of the River Wear, offering views of Durham Cathedral. The route is fully signed, and no navigation experience is needed. Walkers are welcome.

Amenities and Extras

All finishers who complete at least 3km receive a Remembrance-themed medal. Participants who complete a half marathon distance or more are eligible for a distance-specific pin (Half-Marathon, Marathon, 50km, or Ultra) attached to their medal ribbon. All finishers also receive a goody bag, with a vegan option available.

An aid station at the start/finish area of each lap provides a selection of savory snacks, sweets, fruit, cheese, and vegan items, plus drinks.
