Trail Running Along the River Wear
The GNR & Time Turner is a trail running event held in Durham, based at the Durham Amateur Rowing Club. The course follows a stretch of the River Wear, offering views of the Durham Cathedral. The route is fully signed, requiring no previous navigational experience. Participants of all abilities, including walkers, are welcome to take part in this inclusive event.
The event is structured as a 7 hour time challenge. This format allows participants to control their own distance by completing multiple laps of a 7 km (4.37 mile) loop. The loop may be adjusted to a 3.28 mile version depending on the condition of the trails. Special turn points for 3 km and 5 km distances are also available within the lap to accommodate younger runners or those seeking shorter distances.
Distances available include:
- 3 km
- 5 km
- 10 km
- Half Marathon (3 laps)
- Marathon (6 laps)
- 50 km
- Ultra Marathon (7 or more laps)
An aid station is located at the start and finish of each lap, providing a selection of sweet and savoury snacks, including vegan options. All participants who complete at least 3 km receive a themed medal and a goody bag. Runners completing a half marathon or further are also eligible for distance-specific pins. The venue provides toilet and changing facilities, and a bag drop area is available near the start. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
