Event Overview
The Nearly But Not Quite London Marathon - Wales takes place at Dare Valley Country Park in Aberdare. This event follows a 7-hour time challenge format, allowing participants to determine their own distance by completing multiple laps. The course consists of well-maintained footpaths and trails through the countryside, making it suitable for standard road running shoes.
Participants can choose from various distances based on the number of laps completed:
- 3 km
- 5 km
- 10 km
- Half Marathon (3 laps)
- Marathon (6 laps)
- 50 km
- Ultra Marathon (7 or more laps)
Course and Facilities
The primary lap is approximately 7 km (4.37 miles), though this may be adjusted to a 3.28-mile loop depending on ground conditions. The route is located on public footpaths within the park. An aid station situated at the start and finish of each lap provides a variety of sweet and savoury snacks, including vegan options and ice cream for finishers.
The venue features free on-site parking and public toilets located near the race headquarters. A café serving hot food and drinks is also available on-site. There are no dedicated changing or shower facilities. Runners may leave bags at the start area, though this is not a secured storage space.
Participation Details
As long as a minimum distance of 3 km is completed, participants are recognized as official finishers and receive a themed medal. Those completing a Half Marathon distance or further also receive specific distance pins. The event is open to runners and walkers of all abilities, subject to age restrictions for longer distances.
