Event
The Sassafras 8 Mile Run/Hike is scheduled for March 8, 2026 at the Rocky Bottom Retreat Center for the Blind in Sunset, SC (123 Hancock Rd, Sunset, SC 29685). The event is an 8-mile out-and-back format that climbs to the summit of Sassafras Mountain and returns by a trail descent. The course includes a steep, winding road climb to the summit and a varied natural trail descent. Race proceeds and donations support the Upstate Running Club Youth Team.

Entry fees listed are $35 for adults and $15 for ages 1–17. A finisher medal and a custom race bib are provided. Top 3 overall finishers by gender receive trophies; first through third in each age group receive age group medals. Age group categories are defined from 0–9 up to 80+. No on-course aid stations are listed; water is available at the start and finish area. Packet pickup is offered. Race shirts are sold and shipped separately; finisher medals and awards are not shipped.
Registration policies include the option for registered participants to transfer an entry to another person and to change race distance. No refunds or deferrals are offered except in the case of a full sellout, when a 50% off code for a future Upstate Race Series event may be requested. Volunteers who work a three-hour shift may earn a free entry to an Upstate Race Series-owned event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
