Sassafras 8 Mile Run/Walk
The Sassafras 8 Mile Run/Walk is an 8-mile mountain challenge held at Rocky Bottom Retreat Center for the Blind in Sunset, SC on March 7, 2027. The course features a steep, winding road climb to the summit of Sassafras Mountain followed by a varied trail descent. Runners can expect panoramic Blue Ridge views at the peak and natural trail terrain on the way down.
All finishers receive a custom finisher medal. The event uses chip timing with live results and enforces a 2 hour time limit. There are no on-course aid stations; water is available at the start and finish. Post-race provisions include pancakes, hot cocoa, music, and complimentary professional race photos. Parking is free in the open field adjacent to the start and finish, and runners may store gear or drop bags in their cars about 25 meters from the start area.
Additional event details: registration opens September 1, 2026 and closes November 1, 2026 with a listed registration fee of $35. Packet pickup may not be completed by a proxy. Dogs and headphones are allowed on course. Race entries are final but entries can be transferred, switched to another distance, or moved to a different series event; group entries of five or more receive a $5 discount and refund.
