Sassafras Mountain 8 Mile Challenge
The Sassafras Mountain 8 mile event takes place on March 7, 2027 at Rocky Bottom Retreat & Conference Center in Sunset, South Carolina. The course includes a steep, winding road climb to the summit of Sassafras Mountain and a varied trail descent back toward the finish. Participants should expect a significant elevation gain and mixed road and natural trail surfaces.
There is no on-course aid station; water is available at the start and finish area. Top finishers will be recognized after the race at a summit gathering. Post-race refreshments include pancakes served at the venue.
Registration is scheduled to open on September 1, 2026 and close on November 1, 2026. The listed registration fee is $40.00. The first 100 participants will receive custom race socks.
Onsite accommodations at Rocky Bottom include primitive camping, multi-bedroom cabins, and restroom and water facilities. The event is described as running to the highest point in South Carolina and returning via trail descent, offering extensive mountain views and varied terrain.
