About the race
The Saskia Says Beginner Triathlon Event is held in Victoria, BC, at the Saanich Commonwealth Pool. This event is specifically designed for individuals looking to participate in their first triathlon within a supportive environment. The competition utilizes the facilities of the recreation center, which frequently hosts local and provincial swim meets.
The event features a sprint-style distance consisting of:
- 500m pool swim
- 20km road bike ride
- 4km road run
The swim leg takes place in a 25m short course pool, with athletes organized into heats based on their estimated swim times. Participants swim up and down the lanes before exiting to the transition zone, which is located in the south parking lot of Saanich Commonwealth Place. This single transition area serves for both the swim-to-bike and bike-to-run segments.
Specific equipment rules are in place: electric bikes are not permitted, and bicycles must not have kickstands. Helmets must be fastened before leaving the transition area. For the final leg, walking is permitted during the 4km run. Participants must hold a Triathlon BC membership or purchase day-of-race insurance. Parking at the venue is limited, with overflow options available on Elk Lake Drive. The event also supports local charities, including the Saanich Fire Fighters' Charitable Foundation.
