50th Annual Sandy Claws Beach Run
The Sandy Claws Beach Run is hosted by Sarasota County Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources and takes place at Siesta Beach Park. This event marks its 50th anniversary as a long-standing fixture in the Sarasota running community. Participants run on the hard-packed sand of Siesta Beach. The event features two primary distances:
- 5K chip-timed race for adults and youth
- 1-Mile fun run and walk for all ages
The 5K race is sanctioned by the Manasota Track Club. All participants receive finisher medals, and custom awards are presented to those finishing in first through sixth place across all age categories. The event includes a holiday-themed costume contest along with music, food, and raffle prizes.
Participants who register by late November are guaranteed a long-sleeve performance event shirt and a runner goodie bag. Those registering after this deadline or on the day of the race receive these items while supplies last. A family rate discount is available for the 5K for groups of up to four people. Proceeds from the event benefit the “Summer in the Parks” Adopt-A-Camper scholarship fund.
Packet pickup is available two days prior to the event at a local athletic store or on the morning of the race at the beach location. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
