Sanders' Saunter Charity Race - Clinton State Park, Lawrence, KS
Sanders' Saunter is an annual trail race presented by the Lawrence Trail Hawks held at Clinton State Park with multiple distance options. The event uses Shelter 1 at the Corps of Engineers as the start and finish location and is run on a combination of marked white, yellow, blue and connector trails around Sanders Mound and Lake Henry.
Distances include:
- 50K
- 25K
- 10K
The course follows the white trail west, turns south on the yellow trail to ascend and descend the ridge of Sanders Mound, then continues north and returns to the white trail. 10K runners access the Lake Henry aid station and return on the blue trail before repeating the mound and finishing at Shelter 1. 25K and 50K runners continue past Mile Marker 9 onto a connector to the blue trail; the 50K is two loops of the 25K course and there is a cutoff to begin the second lap. 25K and 50K runners are required to carry a handheld or hydration pack. Drop bags are available at Lands End and the Start/Finish aid station.
Aid stations are located near Lake Henry, Lands Ends and at the Start/Finish with mile markers provided in race materials. Packet pickup is available on race morning and on the Friday prior at Lawrence Beer Company WEST.
The event includes awards for top finishers by gender and non-binary first place in each race. Dogs are permitted when securely leashed and under control; owners must clean up after their dogs. The race operates a Hero Runner fundraising program with tiered donation commitments and associated rewards. The event does not allow refunds, deferrals, or transfers and may provide an alternative course if trail conditions or official guidance require it.
