Salem Summer Solstice 10K
The Salem Summer Solstice 5/10K takes place at Minto Brown Island Park in Salem, Oregon. This event serves as a fundraiser to support the McKay High School Cross Country Team. The race features two primary distances held in a natural park setting:
- 10k Run
- 5k Run/walk
The courses are primarily flat and utilize the park's trail system. The 5k route consists entirely of paved trails, while the 10k route includes a small loop along an open trail before returning to the paved surface. Walkers are welcome to participate in the 5k event. Both courses are monitored until the local evening hours, with an official course closure time of 9:00 PM.
Participants receive chip timing with immediate results provided by Eclectic Edge Racing. One water station is situated on the course, accessible at different mile markers for each distance. Following the event, an ice-cream sundae is provided. Awards are based on ten-year age groups ranging from 1-10 up to 80-89, with ribbons presented to the top three male and female finishers in each category.
The event allows the use of baby joggers, strollers, and headphones with ambient passthrough noise. For safety and coordination purposes, dogs, rollerblades, skates, and skateboards are not permitted on the course. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
