Rye Summer Classic Series: Race One
The Rye Summer Classic Series begins its five-month schedule at the Rye Harbour Nature Reserve in East Sussex. This event takes place within a significant conservation site characterized by a varied landscape of saltmarsh, shingle ridges, intertidal grazing areas, reed-beds, and saline lagoons. The course is set on tarmac surfaces and is noted for being flat, which provides the potential for fast times when weather conditions allow.
Participants can choose from several distances:
- 10 km
- 5 km
- 1 km Junior run
The event is part of a larger series with races held monthly from May through September. While participants can enter individual races, a series entry option is also available. The May edition marks the first race of the 2026 season. The reserve environment can be subject to wind, but the flat terrain is designed to accommodate different running goals.
All finishers in the 10 km and 5 km events receive a bespoke medal, while participants in the Junior run are awarded a finisher medal. Trophies are also presented as part of the event. The race is open to a range of ages, with the 5 km distance requiring participants to be at least 11 years old and the 10 km requiring a minimum age of 15.
