About the race
The CLT Runway 5K on October 17, 2026 takes place at Charlotte Douglas International Airport with participant parking at Charlotte Premium Outlets and bus transport to the secure airfield. The event is limited to 1600 participants and is listed as sold out. The course is entirely on airport runway and taxiways and is described as flat and fast. Participants will run or walk on a smooth surface where aircraft will be visible as they queue, take off, and land.
The event is stroller friendly and wheelchair accessible; children over two must be registered, children under two may participate free, and children 12 and under must be accompanied by a registered adult. Registered runners only are allowed to enter the race area. Entry to the secured airfield requires identification. All participants must show a valid Real ID or passport that matches registration information; participants 18 and over must have a Real ID or passport.
Bags are not permitted into the event area; diaper bags are allowed but subject to search. Registration rules note that there are no refunds, transfers are allowed until October 10, 2026, and race management may cancel or modify the event for unfavorable conditions. Proceeds support Airport Opportunity Scholarships at Central Piedmont Community College for Title 1 eligible Charlotte-Mecklenburg School graduates.
