CLT Runway 5K
The CLT Runway 5K is a road race held on the runways and taxiways of Charlotte Douglas International Airport. The course is flat and takes place entirely on airport pavement, where participants can see aircraft queuing, taking off, and landing. Participants park at Charlotte Premium Outlets and are transported by bus to the secured airfield race site.
The event is limited to 1600 participants and the 2026 race is listed as sold out. Participants 18 and over must present a REAL ID or passport to enter the race area. All participants must show an ID that matches their registration information. Runners may not bring bags into the event; diaper bags are permitted but subject to search.
The race offers multiple registration categories, including options for strollers and wheelchair access. Children 12 and under must be accompanied by a registered adult; children under 2 may participate without a registration fee. Registration is nonrefundable, though transfers are allowed until October 10, 2026. Race management may cancel or modify the event for safety or other unfavorable conditions; registration fees are not refundable if cancellation is due to Acts of God.
Proceeds support Airport Opportunity Scholarships at Central Piedmont Community College, a program that helps eligible Charlotte-Mecklenburg School graduates attend CPCC and enroll in aviation-focused two-year degree programs.
