Event Details
The Jackalope Trail Run is an 8-mile and 4-mile trail running race. It is the second event in the four-race Wild Thangs Trail Series, which takes place in the mountains around Huntsville, Alabama. The race is held at Monte Sano State Park.
Course and Features
The course is described as spectator-friendly compared to other trail events. It includes several bluff views with mountain scenery, creek crossings, and waterfalls. Several aid stations on the course provide water, Gatorade, cola, GU energy gels, pretzels, M&M's, granola bars, and other items.
The race is a "cupless" event. Runners must provide their own hand-held bottle, pack, or reusable cup, as no paper cups are available at aid stations.
Registration and Participation
Registration for the race is capped at 400 runners. All participants receive a t-shirt and a finisher award. The t-shirt is the same for the entire Wild Thangs Trail Series. Age group awards are given for categories: 0-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, and 70+.
Post-Race and Logistics
Marco's Pizza is a series sponsor, and pizza will be available for participants at the finish line. Packet pickup is available the day before the race at the RunningLane store in Huntsville or on race morning. The event has a very loose cutoff pace, but a 17-minute-per-mile guideline is suggested for participants in the longer series distances.
