Event overview
The Running Out of Time race takes place on December 31 at Burke Lake Park in Fairfax Station, VA (7315 Ox Rd). The event offers trail and park courses in two distances:
- 5k
- 12k
Points from the event count toward the Year-Long 5k, 10k, and Back of the Pack series, and also toward the Fall Series. A virtual race option is available. The event benefits We Rock Cancer.
Race details and logistics
The route is mostly paved with a short section of gravel. The 5k has limited elevation gains; the 12k includes several hills, shown on the course elevation maps. Runners receive a finisher’s medal, a technical (Drifit) event shirt, and chip timing. T-shirts are guaranteed for registrations before December 16; extra shirts will be ordered after that date on a first-come, first-served basis.
Water stations:
- 12k: six stations at approximately miles 0.7, 2.1, 3.6, 4.8, 5.45, and 6.8; some stations will offer Gatorade.
- 5k: two stations at approximately miles 0.7 and 2.4.
Parking is at Shelter C in Burke Lake Park; restrooms are located by the parking lot at Shelter A. Live results will be posted online and final results with series points are posted the Monday after the race.
Awards and registration
Top 3 men and women overall receive awards. Age group awards are given for 19 & Under, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, and 70+. Overall top-3 finishers are not eligible for age-group prizes. Early registration fees listed are $30 for the 5k and $55 for the 12k through December 15 (higher fees apply after that date). Race day registration is available and prices increase on race morning.
