Runner In Red 5K Run/Walk
The Runner In Red 5K Run/Walk is an annual event held at Eisenhower Park Field 2 in East Meadow, New York. The event takes place on a 5 km course that is USATF certified. Participants can choose between two registration formats:
- 5 km Run/Walk
- Virtual 5 km
The event is inspired by the novel "Runner in Red," which explores a Boston Marathon legend regarding the first woman to run a marathon in America. The race serves as a fundraiser for the Barb’s Beer Foundation, a 501c3 charity dedicated to supporting research for a lung cancer cure.
Participants who register at least three weeks before the race date receive a personalized bib with their name. Registration also includes a t-shirt, although sizes are not guaranteed for those who sign up after March 9. In-person participants aged 21 and over receive a complimentary beverage provided by the foundation. A free kids fun run is also available for younger participants.
Awards are presented to the top overall male and female finishers, as well as the top three finishers in several age groups ranging from 10 and under to over 80. A trophy is also awarded to the largest participating team. For those choosing the virtual option, the window to complete the distance and upload times stretches from March 21 to March 29.
