Event Details

The Runner in Red 5K Run/Walk takes place on March 21, 2026, at Eisenhower Park Field 2 in East Meadow, New York. The event features a 5K distance. A kids' fun run is also offered for free.

Course and Awards

The course is a USATF-certified 5K. Awards are given to the top overall male and female finishers, as well as the top three in various age categories (10 & Under, 11-14, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-79, 80+). A trophy is also presented for the largest participating team.

Charity and Origin

The event raises funds for the Barb’s Beer Foundation, a 501(c)(3) charity supporting lung cancer research. It is named after the novel Runner in Red, a Boston Marathon mystery by Tom Murphy. All participants aged 21 and over receive a complimentary Barb’s Beer. The novel and the beer were created in memory of Barb Murphy, a marathon runner who passed away from lung cancer.

Registration and Participation

Registration includes a t-shirt and a personalized bib, though shirt availability is not guaranteed after March 9, 2026. Participants can choose between an in-person event and a virtual option to be completed between March 21 and March 29, 2026.
