Runner in Red 5K Run/Walk
The Runner in Red 5K Run/Walk is an annual March running event held at Eisenhower Park Field #2 in East Meadow. The event takes its name from the novel Runner in Red and supports a lung cancer charity connected to the book.
- 5K USATF certified course
- Free kids fun run
Awards are given for top overall finishers, including trophies for the top female and top male, as well as top three male and female medals in age groups that range from 10 and under through 80 plus. There is also an award for the largest team.
The event benefits the Runner in Red / Barb’s Beer Foundation, a 501c3 charity that raises funds to cure lung cancer in memory of a late marathon runner. The novel related to the event supports the same cause, and the novel’s author contributes profits toward the charity.
