Event overview

Run Wild Races XII: Run for Tortoises takes place on May 2, 2026 at the Metro Richmond Zoo in Moseley, VA. The event raises funds and awareness for endangered tortoises. The organizer states that proceeds from this event will benefit Galapagos giant tortoises and Sulcata tortoises.

Course and participant rules

The Mini course uses mainly paved pathways with some gravel and dirt. The 5k begins inside the zoo, then follows nearly a mile of pavement before switching to dirt, mulch, grass, and gravel trails that include rolling hills and bridges. The Wild Ninja course features up to 42 obstacles inspired by American Ninja Warrior and animal survival challenges. Age rules listed by the organizer include Mini participants ages 2 and older, 5k participants ages 5 and up, and Wild Ninja open to ages 8 and older (ages 8-14 must compete with a participating adult or have Full Access Spectator). Strollers are allowed; an all-terrain jogger stroller is recommended for the 5k. Pets are not allowed on the course.

Logistics and included items

Every participant receives race entry with chip-timed bib, a finishers medal, an event t-shirt, post-race refreshments, and a same-day free zoo ticket. Packet pickup is at the race venue parking area tent on the day before and on race day. Water stations: none on the Mini except before/after, two on the 5k, and one for the Wild Ninja.
