Event Overview
The Run Wild Races XII: Run for Tortoises Spring 2026 will be held at the Metro Richmond Zoo in Moseley, Virginia. The event includes several race distances and a ninja obstacle challenge. The event raises awareness and funds for an endangered tortoise species.
Available Events
The event features the following categories:
- Mini 1 Mile: A one-mile run through zoo pathways (90% pavement, 5% gravel, 5% dirt). Open to ages 2 and up.
- 5k: A 3.1-mile all-terrain race that begins inside the zoo and goes around its perimeter. Open to ages 4 and up.
- Wild Ninja: An approximately two-mile obstacle course featuring Ninja Warrior-style obstacles. Open to ages 8 and up.
- Ninja Full Access Spectator: A ticket allowing spectators to walk or run the two-mile trail with participants.
- Virtual 5k: A remote participation option.
Participant Perks
Registration includes race entry, a bib with chip timing, a finisher's medal, an event t-shirt, a same-day ticket to the zoo, post-race refreshments, and sponsor swag. Packet pickup is available the day before the event and on race morning.
Event Details
Strollers are permitted on the courses, with all-terrain jogging strollers recommended for the 5k. Pets are not allowed on the course. Water stations are available for the 5k and Wild Ninja events, but not for the Mini 1 Mile. Restrooms and porta-potties are located near the start/finish area.
