Run to the Rising Sun is a 10k trail race held on 14 December 2025 at Rising Sun Country Park, Whitley Road, Benton, Newcastle Upon Tyne, NE12 9SS. The event has a minimum entry age of 15. Entry fees are listed as £22 for UKA members and £24 for non-members. Entries open and close on specified dates. Each entry includes a race day memento and a packet of mixed wild flower seeds. Prizes are planned for the top three male and female finishers and for top veteran category finishers. The organiser notes an eco-friendly approach and does not use disposable plastic cups.
Course and facilities
The course is described as traffic-free, well-marked and marshalled, with one main summit and mainly downhill running after the summit. Terrain includes hard packed gravel tracks, grassy paths and woodland paths. Race HQ, registration and toilets are at the cafe building in the Countryside Centre; note there is no parking available at Race HQ. Parking is available at ASDA Benton, about 0.5 mile from Race HQ via road or park footpath. Medical support will be on the course. Free water, snacks and fruit are available at the finish and hot drinks can be purchased at the cafe. The park covers 162 hectares with ponds, woodlands, grasslands and a farm.
