Run the Runway 5K
The Run the Runway 5K is a family friendly running event set at Shenandoah Valley Regional Airport on Sunday, September 13, 2026. The program includes a children’s 1K Fun Run for ages 3 to 12 and a chip timed 5K held on the airport taxiway and runway. The course is flat and fully paved, making it stroller and wheelchair friendly. Pets are not allowed.

Registration fees are listed separately for the kids fun run and the 5K. A deadline of August 30 is noted for guaranteed event shirts; after that date remaining shirts are distributed on a first come, first served basis. The last day to register online is September 12. Packet pickup takes place at Shenandoah Valley Regional Airport on race day from 11:30am to 1:30pm.
All proceeds support the Explore More Discovery Museum aviation exhibit, which gives children hands on experience as a pilot, aircraft mechanic, air traffic controller and passenger. An eight week free training program beginning July 20 is offered for runners of varying experience levels; most workouts are independent with optional in person sessions on Saturday mornings and Wednesday evenings.
