Airport Runway Race in Weyers Cave
Run the Runway takes place at the Shenandoah Valley Regional Airport in Weyers Cave, Virginia. This event provides the opportunity to run on a real airport runway and taxiway. The course is entirely paved and flat, which makes it accessible for participants using strollers or wheelchairs.
The event features two distinct distances:
- 5K Run/Walk
- 1K Kids Fun Run
The 5K Run/Walk is professionally chip-timed and open to runners and walkers of various fitness levels. The 1K Kids Fun Run is specifically designed for children between the ages of 3 and 12 years old. To ensure the safety and requirements of the airport environment, pets are not permitted to participate in these events.
Proceeds from the event are directed to the Explore More Discovery Museum, specifically supporting an aviation exhibit. This exhibit is designed to provide children with interactive and multi-sensory learning experiences related to aviation roles such as pilots, aircraft mechanics, and air traffic controllers.
