Flight Path Racing at Shenandoah Valley Regional Airport
Run the Runway takes place at the Shenandoah Valley Regional Airport in Weyers Cave, Virginia. This event provides participants with the opportunity to run or walk on a real airport taxiway and runway. The terrain is flat and entirely paved, which makes the course accessible for participants using strollers or wheelchairs. For safety and airport regulations, pets are not permitted at this event.
The race serves as a fundraiser for the Explore More Discovery Museum, specifically supporting its aviation exhibit. This interactive exhibit is designed to teach children about various roles in the aviation industry, such as pilots, aircraft mechanics, and air traffic controllers.
There are two distinct distances available for participants:
- 1K Kids Fun Run for children aged 3 to 12
- 5K chip-timed run or walk
Participants can expect a professionally chip-timed experience on a unique surface typically reserved for aircraft. The event focuses on community engagement and supporting multi-sensory learning experiences for youth through the museum's educational programs.
