Event Overview
Run the Runway: Pryor Field 5K is an aviation-themed running event held at the Pryor Field Airport in Tanner, Alabama. The course is unique as it utilizes the active airport grounds, taking participants past private planes, jets, and helipads. The event features two primary distances:
- 5K
- Fun Run
Course Details
The 5K course is USATF-certified and designed to be flat and fast, with elevation grades remaining below 3%. Runners start at the Airport Authority Flight Center and navigate a route that includes portions of the runway, the taxiway, and hangar spaces. A notable section of the course leads participants through a World War II hangar. The Fun Run is a shorter, kid-friendly dash held on the airport grounds to allow younger participants to experience the race-day environment.
Participant Information
The event is professionally RFID chip-timed. Registration includes a short-sleeve technical race shirt and a race packet. Participants also receive special access to view aircraft on-site. Two aid stations are provided: one at the start and finish line area, and another located between the first and second mile of the 5K course. These stations offer hydration, snacks, and first aid.
Awards are presented for various categories, including overall male and female winners, Masters (40+), and GrandMasters (60+). Medals are also awarded to the top three finishers in 10-year age groups ranging from 12 and under to 70 and over. Strollers and leashed pets are permitted but are asked to stay at the back of the pack. Free on-site parking is available at the Pryor Airport Authority and the nearby Calhoun Community College Campus. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
